Prisoners Walkthrough: All 7 Endings
This guide shows the reliable route conditions for every ending in Prisoners by JJ (J3NNN), from the cooperative Prisoner ending to the harder-to-find Trust route.
The conditions below are paraphrased from the developer’s official detailed ending guide. Several endings allow more than one path, so these are dependable targets rather than the only possible click-by-click solutions.
Choices that control your route
Five systems decide where the story branches. You do not need to optimize every conversation; focus on these route flags:
- Study time: studying more than five hours can trigger Xor’s day-two panic, while more than eight hours can put you on the competitor route and is required for The Best Outcome.
- The night-one offer: accepting the offer to leave also puts you on the competitor route.
- The tablet: giving it to Xor, locking it, or keeping it changes who controls the exam setup.
- Xor’s trust: kindness and time together raise it; cruelty, distance, and refusing comfort can drive it down to paranoid.
- The exam: your final pass, fail, or missed-pod outcome determines the last branch.
Ending 1: Prisoner
- Keep your preparation at five hours or less.
- Do not accept the offer to leave.
- Handle the truce however you prefer, but do not betray Xor at the end.
Shortcut: cooperate with Xor, spend time with him, and do not over-prepare for the examination.
Ending 2: The Best Outcome
- Study for more than eight hours.
- On day two, offer Xor the tablet.
This route needs the most deliberate time management. Prioritize study actions early instead of optional conversations.
Ending 3: Freedom
- Reach the competitor branch by accepting the night-one offer or studying more than five hours so Xor demands the tablet.
- Never surrender your tablet.
- Push Xor’s trust down to paranoid: avoid comforting him, do not hug him, and do not confess love.
- Finish without a passing exam mark.
If Xor is still too trusting, choose colder responses and spend less time with him before the exam.
Ending 4: Prisoner of Survival
- Keep Xor happy: study as little as possible on day one and spend as much time with him as you can.
- Do not accept the offer to leave.
- When Xor suggests locking the tablets, do not lock yours.
- After that choice, prepare enough to earn a passing mark.
The trick is timing: build trust first, keep your tablet available, then switch to exam preparation.
Ending 5: Disqualified
- On the non-competitor route, approach Xor before the exam and tell him to enter his pod first.
- On the competitor route, approach Xor and talk with him before the exam.
- After he is no longer able to force you into your pod, deliberately let the timer expire.
If Xor keeps forcing you into the pod, you missed the required pre-exam conversation for your current route.
Ending 6: Prisoner of Fate
- Enter the competitor route: accept the offer to leave, or study more than eight hours before day-two lunch.
- Do not give Xor your tablet.
- Be kind and keep his trust high.
- Tell Xor that you love him.
- Earn a passing mark on the exam.
Your confession guarantees that Xor fails; your own passing result is what separates Ending 6 from Ending 7.
Ending 7: Trust
- Enter the competitor route by accepting the offer to leave or studying more than eight hours before day-two lunch.
- Keep your tablet instead of giving it to Xor.
- Choose kind responses and keep Xor’s trust high.
- Tell Xor that you love him.
- Fail the exam.
This route mirrors Prisoner of Fate until the final result: pass for Ending 6, fail for Ending 7.
Fast all-endings route order
Use manual saves before the largest branches so you do not have to replay every conversation:
- Play blind first and keep that ending as your natural result.
- Save before the night-one offer and before your day-two tablet decision.
- On a high-trust competitor run, save before the exam result to split Prisoner of Fate and Trust.
- On any suitable run, save before the pods to collect Disqualified.
- Leave Freedom for a separate low-trust run because its choices conflict with the high-trust endings.
Walkthrough FAQ
How many endings does Prisoners have?
Seven: Prisoner, The Best Outcome, Freedom, Prisoner of Survival, Disqualified, Prisoner of Fate, and Trust.
Why does Xor keep failing the exam?
Telling Xor you love him or hugging him guarantees that he fails. Avoid both if your intended ending requires him to pass.
Why can’t I get Ending 5: Disqualified?
Talk to Xor immediately before the exam. On a non-competitor route, tell him to enter first; on a competitor route, have the available conversation. Then wait until the pod timer runs out.
Do I need to follow every choice exactly?
No. The developer confirms that most endings can be reached in several ways. The guide focuses on the route flags and thresholds that must be in the correct state.
